Who are the Katukina?

The Katukina tribe, also known as Noke Koi or "True People," is an indigenous group native to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. They primarily inhabit the Jutaí River region and the Gregório River Indigenous Territory, sharing this area with the Yawanawá tribe. The Katukina have a rich cultural heritage and are known for their deep connection to the natural world and their spiritual traditions.  The tribe is divided into six clans: Varinawa (people of the Sun), Kamanawa (people of the Jaguar), Satanawa (people of the Otter), Waninawa (people of the Peachpalm), Nainawa (people of the Sky), and Numanawa (people of the Dove).  They are recognised for their knowledge of flora and fauna, and their healing practices, particularly with Rapé and Kambo.

In recent years, the Katukina have gained recognition for spreading their shamanistic wisdom and traditional use of Kambo.  They have also been involved in lectures and shamanistic gatherings, helping to affirm their ethnic identity through these teachings.
