During this disorienting time, we all need our yoga practice more than ever. Luckily, with just a few curated items, you can create a tranquil refuge at home so you can find peace every day.
Be kind to yourself, and give yourself the gift of an inner peaceful retreat, especially when you can't go outside.
I hope the ideas and items listed below will help you create your own welcoming and calming space at home that inspires you to get to your mat every day:
Luxury Mat
A nice thick mat is ultra plush and kinda heavy but it is perfect for your stationary home practice. A 6-mm-thick mat offers substantial joint protection and durability and allows you to sink into that Dolphin Pose or rest peacefully in Savasana so is well worth the investment now. I personally use a Jade Yoga Mat as I think they are perfect for my Vinyasa yoga practice but they are many other great quality ones out there.
Perfect Props
Blocks and a strap can help you experience the full expression of a pose, even if you lack mobility and flexibility. You can easily purchase these online now as very reasonable prices.
Soft Sitting Spot for your Meditation or Pranayama Practice
Love soft, sensuous fabrics? Make your practice space truly special with a luxurious meditation cushion that feels as beautiful as it looks. Try to buy one that is filled with buckwheat hulls that can shift beneath you for a custom feel.
Deluxe Bolster
A bolster is a must if you truly want to release long-held tension during restorative poses. One that is stuffed with dense foam will never loses it’s supportive shape. A removable cover for easy cleaning is useful too.
Blanket
Cozy up under an inviting cotton blanket on chilly mornings or during a long, lavish Savasana. It is also very useful if folded to assist you during challenging poses as well.
Mood Lighting
Set a meditative mood with a natural salt lamp that emits a warm, rosy glow. These lamps can purify the air of allergens and balance electromagnetic radiation. I truly think they are worth investing in for your wellbeing.
Altar
You don’t need to a fancy altar. Just a low table or bedside table like mine is enough to display some of my favourite objects. It is also something pretty to look at and you can change the items depending on your mood.
Scented Candle or Incense
Give your practice the boost of aromatherapy with a fragrant candle that can purify the surrounding energy. I personally prefer incense and sometimes I use my essential oil diffuser.
Crystals
Decorate your altar with a collection of crystals selected for the specific properties. A selenite wand will charge and cleanse your space or other crystals as well. I love my amethyst piece brought back from Brazil as it also reminds me of my wonderful time there.
Bluetooth Speaker
Bring soothing sounds to your practice space with a rechargeable good quality Bluetooth speaker to increase their sense of wellbeing. Relaxing soothing music can really enhance your practice and wellbeing too.
As you can see in the photo my altar is very simple but it does make me feel better when I practice next to it. If you have other ideas to set up your practice space, please share them with us.
